→ What are the aims of the Grand Law Library (GLL)?

From first-year law student to renowned bar member, who hasn't slaved away to find some legal information, feverishly searching the net, from Légifrance to legal publishers' databases? The Grande Bibliothèque du Droit came into being on 2 April 2014 to solve this conundrum. Its aim: to facilitate access to law by the greatest number, by simplifying the citizen's route to legal texts. To do this, the Paris Bar Association, led by Emmanuel Pierrat , has created this online law library. The Grande Bibliothèque du Droit handles very diverse subjects, ranging from criminal law to property law.

→ A completely free online law library

The GLL aims to bring together various legal resources (national or international):
- Articles from academic writings
- Case law
- University work (dissertations, theses, etc.)
- Template documents
- International agreements
- Educational tools (guides, etc.)

Access is open and free of charge; no prior subscription is necessary.

  • A participatory system

Everyone has the option of contributing to the library, by proposing articles, without fees.
The GLL's sources are varied; the competence and renown of these sources guarantee the quality of its content:

  • Legal professionals (barristers, judges, etc.)
  • Legal committees and associations
  • Bar associations and legal bodies
  • Law schools
  • Legal publishers

All documents are signed by their authors and may not be amended.
Articles submitted are processed by a scientific committee and put online as promptly as possible.
No publicity or political publications are accepted.

→ Our partners

This innovative and ambitious tool was designed in partnership with JurisPedia, the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and Lexbase.
Today, the GLL has around 50 partners, both national and international.
Law bloggers also contribute to the library; there are currently more than 40 blogs on the site.
The International Criminal Court and the European Court of Human Rights are soon to be partners of the GLL.

→ Be a part of the GLL

All partnerships with the GLL start with signature of the Charter.
Our partner's name then appears on the home page (see home page, left-hand column).

What is the partner's role after that?

- To make the existence and interest of the GLL known to the whole bar/organisation/court; to ensure promotion and visibility of the library on its means of communication and its networks (newsletter, website, social networks)
- To encourage its members to contribute to the content via their blogs, or by submitting articles
- Bar Associations often distribute their own publications, which may contain articles which could find their place in the GLL.
For example, on the GLL site, you can find various articles from the Journal of the Bar Association of the District of Columbia, one of the Library's partners.

• Bloggers
Legal blogs are a valuable component of the GLL. In order to be referenced, these blogs must first satisfy certain criteria (length of articles, content, etc.).
Once the blog has been integrated on our platform, the scientific committee reserves the option of choosing one or more articles with the aim of publishing them.
These articles are also signed by the author and a link to the partner's blog is provided.
RSS feeds also mean that blogs are automatically updated on the site.
